ARTISTS AND WRITERS IN READING PRISON

Reading Prison (RG13RV).

In September 2016 HM Prison Reading opened for the first time to the public. Artangel called for artists, writers, and performers to respond to its most notorious inmate, Oscar Wilde. They placed their artworks inside the prison's cells and corridors, and the result is astonishing. This exhibition brings together that which Wilde's final works so eloquently delineated: the pain of separation, the excruciatingly slow passage of time, betrayal, redemption, and love.

The Living Meditation series provides a comprehensive introduction to meditation and mindfulness, Each class consists of two guided meditations and instruction. Anyone can practice meditation and everyone is welcome to attend.

This is the first edition of the Reading Book Festival. Top speakers from literature, sport, entertainment and politics will gather this week end to read from the latest books and answer question from the public.
You can book for the whole event for just £20 a ticket.

DRACULA, THE PLAY

When a story is as well known as Dracula, theatre makers and film directors feel compelled to stage different readings of the original Stocker's book.
This Progress Theatre’s production, continues the trend by placing the novel’s women front and centre of the ordeal and making the males accessories to the main plot.

PATTY SMITH READS OSCAR WILDE

Part of Artangel's exhibition at Reading Prison, the musician Patty Smith reads De Profundis by Oscar Wilde. The reading will last about 5 hours, and nothing has been said about how Smith will perform it.
But it will be a memorable event.

Sex Gang Children? It's a band and they are here. Back in the early 80s, the Sex Gang Children held their own unique place within the broad church of gothic rock. Less grand and majestic. More sneering and medieval. Strong bass lines and ringing guitar led by pleading, howling vocals. And after 30 odd years they recreate the theatre and drama that unsettled us back then.
