MY PREVIOUS LIFE

My professional life was mostly focused on counselling: as a psychologist, in 15 years of practice I have helped about 3000 clients, each one with their own peculiarities. There were the IT Engineer who wanted to change the world, the Afghani guy who travelled 4 continents to get into Italy; the artist who felt frustrated because she did not fulfilled her artistic potential, the contractor who got sacked for malpractice, and more. Some of them I met once, while some others established a long professional relationship with me. With some I did a very good job; with some others not a great job; with a few it was a disaster. Towards everybody, however, I have always felt empathy and, by using a polite inquisitiveness, I have supported them expressing their feelings, thoughts, and hopes. Above all, I have focused my effort in building with them a sustainable career project, once valued their strengths and contained their weaknesses, backing them up throughout their difficulties.

Sustainability, practicality, and a long-term vision are, in my opinion, essential characteristics of any project, cultural productions included. While I believe there is no need to state the importance of the arts for individuals, for our community, a cultural manager has the opportunity to demonstrate this relevance factually, through the projects that he/she leads. And it is my purpose to find a personal strategy to navigate the complexity of the cultural sector in order to realize meaningful initiatives.
